So... I saw it tonight; that trainwreck running under the HitchHiker's Guide moniker.
I think the worst thing about it is that some parts of it are actually quite good while still simultaneously skull-fucking the last vestiges of wit and humor from the lifeless, worm infested, rotting corpse of Douglas Adams.
The saddest thing about this movie is that the film makers seem to have no concept whatsoever about what makes witty humor work.
For example, the Vogon announcement about humans not being interested in public affairs being their own lookout just simply *IS NOT FUNNY* without first being set up by Arthur Dent having the exact same conversation with the construction crew. Nevermind them cutting out how Ford convinces the foreman to replace Arthur with himself, which is excruciatingly funny, but not critical for the larger payoff of the repetition of the Vogon announcement.
And yet, they add in horribly unnecessary things like giving Ford a reason for saving Arthur, and ridiculously un-funny gags such as, "Marvin, lend me a hand," and "The restaurant is at the OTHER end of the universe."
Oh please.
It's rather sad to see such good pieces of a good movie intermingled with the rest of the mediocre trash that fills the gaps between the pitifully small amounts of worthwhile film.
Oh, and the pearl necklace money-shot all over Doug's ever-grinning lipless skull is that there's talk of actually turning this into a Trilogy.
