11:10a - Things n' stuff
Just some various notes about recent things in no particular order:
1. We now have couches. This is a good thing. 2. Best V for Vendetta review I've seen said (paraphrased): Whatever your views going into the movie, this movie will simply reinforce them. 3. I'm a bit annoyed that I haven't been able to scrape together the time to roll v1.0 of my 18xx game out the door. It's sooooooooo close. 4. Work decided to request OT out of us for the next two weeks. 5. I now have a backlog of games I must play because of work demanding OT out of me. 6. #5 isn't helped by the fact that I've also got lots of DDO to play as well. 7. I also would like more boardgaming to happen in my home. 8. I've been wanting to pick up a new bottle of Scotch for several months now. One of these days I'll have some spare cash for it. 9. We recently purchased additional shelves for the DVD collection, and they're already full. 10. Now that we have couches, we must schedule movie nights. 11. I have a wonderful wife. You all should be jealous.

4:02p - Another round of DDO fodder.
So, here's a great example of why a dedicated group of players is nearly essential in DDO:
This past weekend turtle_avenger and I log into DDO with our level 5 characters. At first, none of our guild members are online, so I throw out the Looking For Members flag and quickly form a nicely well rounded group. We had a couple fighters, a ranger, a cleric, a rogue, and a wizard (me). The whole party is an average of level 5.
So, after some discussion, we agree to hop into a level 5 quest.
Fast forward about twenty minutes of snarky bickering between the rogue and the ranger about who should be scouting ahead and who triggered which trap first, the party is completely wiped out by a quick series of traps and monsters.
We try the same quest again, with the same results. Lots of bickering and death, no XP.
About this time, I notice guild members starting to log on. turtle_avenger make a quick exit from the group of lameness, and proceed to put together a party of 5 guild members and 1 random invite.
We then proceed to waltz through that same level 5 quest we'd been wiped out by previously. We then manage to successfully complete the next two quests in the series, which are both level 7 quests, despite our party averaging in at level 5. There were many heroics and much fun had all around.
So, I've certainly learned the lesson.
I'm rather thankful that our guild of sane, intelligent players is big enough that I rarely have to dip into the pool of unwashed masses when I log on.
