I like the city life
I've often caught myself shifting perspectives. There's a lot of different ways to look at the world. Sitting in a single view tends to be a bit boring. Different perspectives provide different insight.
As I was walking home from the Hurricane this morning, I was thinking about one of the biggest reasons I like living in a city like Seattle... or.. living in a city at all, for that matter.
There's a certain quiet artistry to how everything fits together. Some of it is intentional, most of it isn't. Most of the time I find myself fascinated with some of the more subtle nuances of the city around me.
How a street sign is aligned with the face of a building, both of which are angled with a nearby dumpster that sits askew of the roadway. All of these things combine to provide a very pleasing angular aesthetic.
Or how the light from somebody's room illuminates the shrubbery along a building's face, which is manicured slightly imperfectly, yet is just right within the setting.
There's so many little things that all just seem to fit together just right. Just about every time I'm out wandering about I find myself staring at all of it. I've walked up streets several dozen times and still find new bits of wonderment in each passing.
Another of my favorites is standing on one of the overpasses and watch traffic pass underfoot.
The mixture of new and old architecture is also quite agreeable. I find that certain arrangements give a feel of wholeness to the view. One ofsets the other to provide quite a striking look.
I'd swear that I'm constantly appearing like a tourist with the way I look at everything around me. Ah well. There's so much stuff worth looking at to worry about what I look like to others.
